Independent Television Authority. A public corporation established in 1954 for commercial television broadcasting in the UK. It has studios and transmitting facilities, but does not produce its own programs, leaving it to program production companies. It has the duty and authority to regulate and supervise program scheduling, content, advertising, etc. In 1972, it was renamed the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) when it was added to the management of commercial radio.

Independent Television Authorityの略。1954年英国の商業テレビ放送のため設立された公共法人。スタジオ，送信施設をもつが自主制作はせず番組制作会社にゆだねている。番組の編成・内容・広告などに対する規制監督の義務と権限をもつ。1972年に商業ラジオの運営も加わり，IBA（Independent Broadcasting Authority）に改称した。
