Japanese: 大野[市] - おおの

A city in eastern Fukui Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The city center, located in the Ono Basin upstream of the Kuzuryu River, has been a castle town since the Kanamori clan built a castle in the Tensho era, and the streets are laid out in a grid pattern. The city has an abundance of groundwater, and clear water springs up in various places in the city. It also has well-developed waterways and is a beautiful place to visit. The Echigo-Minami-Hoku Line runs through the city. It has long been a producer of habutae silk, and the textile industry, mainly synthetic fibers, is still thriving. In recent years, the electrical equipment industry has developed. Rokuroshi Highlands, a famous azalea spot with a ski resort, Kuzuryu Gorge, Mana Gorge, and Kuzuryu Dam are located here. The morning market on Shichiken-dori Street, which has a 400-year tradition, is famous. In November 2005, Izumi Village, Ono District, was incorporated. Area: ^{872.43 km2} . 福井県東部の市。1954年市制。九頭竜(くずりゅう)川上流の大野盆地にある中心市街は天正年間，金森氏築城以来の城下町で，街路は碁盤目状をなす。地下水が豊富で，市内各所に清水(しょうず)がわき，水路も発達して風光にすぐれる。越美北線が通じる。古くから奉書羽二重の産地で，現在も合成繊維を主とする繊維工業が盛んで，近年は電気機器工業が発展している。ツツジの名所でスキー場がある六呂師高原，九頭竜峡，真名峡，九頭竜ダムがある。400年の伝統をもつ七間通りの朝市は有名。2005年11月大野郡和泉村を編入。872.43km²。３万5291人（2010）。
