Born: November 2, 1790, Erpolzheim, Pfalz
Died May 9, 1872, Munich German legal historian and politician. He studied at the University of Heidelberg and was influenced by J. Grimm and F. Savigny. In 1824 he became professor of civil law and legal history at the University of Munich. In 1829 he became a member of the Bavarian Privy Council, and from 1832 to 1834 he became an advisor to Prince Otto of Bavaria, who became King of Greece, and worked hard to reform the Greek law. In 1847 he became Bavarian Foreign Minister and Minister of Justice. Academically he excelled in the study of the Mark community and villages, and later had a great influence on O. Gierke and Engels. His main work was Untersuchungen über des gemeindliche Leben der Deutschen seit ihrer ersten Niederlassung in Deutschland (12 volumes, 1854-71). The first volume, "Mark, Hof, an Introduction to the History of Village and Urban Institutions", is particularly famous.

ドイツの法制史家，政治家。ハイデルベルク大学に学び，J.グリムや F.サビニーの影響を受けた。 1824年ミュンヘン大学の民法および法制史教授。 29年バイエルン枢密院議員，32～34年ギリシア王となったバイエルンのオットー親王の顧問となり，ギリシアの法改正に尽力。 47年バイエルン外相兼法相。学問的にはマルク共同体や村落の研究にすぐれ，のちに O.ギールケやエンゲルスに多大の影響を与えた。主著『ドイツ定住以後のドイツ人の共同体生活』 Untersuchungen über des gemeindliche Leben der Deutschen seit ihrer ersten Niederlassung in Deutschland (12巻，1854～71) 。その第1巻『マルク，ホーフ，村落および都市制度史への序論』は特に著名。
