A volcano in the Andes, about 100 km southeast of the capital Santiago in central Chile, South America. It has an elevation of 5,290 m. It erupted in 1931. The area above 4,000 m is covered with glaciers, and the Maipo River, which originates here, is important for irrigating the basin around the capital.
