Mauricius Flavius Tiberius

Japanese: マウリキウス(英語表記)Mauricius Flavius Tiberius
Mauricius Flavius Tiberius
Born: 539. Cappadocia
[Died] 602. Byzantine Emperor of Constantinople (reigned 582-602). Born a notary, he later became a soldier and distinguished himself in the war against the Sassanid Empire of Persia. After the death of Tiberius II, he ascended to the throne in August 582. In the same year, the Avars began to move south along the Danube, taking important cities one after another. However, in the east, he made a peace agreement with Khosrow II of Persia (591), putting an end to the conflict with Persia. At the same time, he established a governorship system in Ravenna and Carthage, and secured western territories. In 592, he turned his attention back to the north and sent an army to the Danube front to pacify the Avars, but the long campaign and the high taxes he had to collect led to a rebellion by the centurion of the expeditionary force, and he abdicated.
