This Old World monkey of the Cercopithecidae family of primates has bob-like hair on its head. It was given this name because it looks like it is wearing a bonnet. The hair on its head is divided down the middle, making it distinct from the toque monkey, M. sinica , which has hair that grows radially. It is found in southern India and inhabits a wide range of environments, from evergreen forests to sparse forests, villages and towns. It has a slender body and a long tail. The hair on its back is gray-brown or brown, and the ventral side is whitish. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
