Bonnet monkey

Japanese: ボンネットモンキー（英語表記）bonnet monkey

This Old World monkey of the Cercopithecidae family of primates has bob-like hair on its head. It was given this name because it looks like it is wearing a bonnet. The hair on its head is divided down the middle, making it distinct from the toque monkey, M. sinica , which has hair that grows radially. It is found in southern India and inhabits a wide range of environments, from evergreen forests to sparse forests, villages and towns. It has a slender body and a long tail. The hair on its back is gray-brown or brown, and the ventral side is whitish.

おかっぱのような頭の毛をもつ霊長目オナガザル科の旧世界ザル。ボンネット帽をかぶっているように見えるのでこの名がつけられた。頭の毛は正中で左右に分かれていて，頭の毛が放射状に生えるトクモンキーM.sinica(英名toque monkey)と区別できる。南インドに分布し，常緑林から疎開林，村や町にまで幅広い環境に生息している。ほっそりした体つきで，長い尾をもつ。体毛は背側が灰褐色ないし褐色，腹側は白っぽい。
