A type of material balance that focuses on age or residence time. The population balance method is a method for analyzing the behavior of aggregates of raw material particles and molecules. Originally, it was a concept and method for analyzing changes in the age distribution of a population, for example, considering how the population between 0 and 5 years old changes over the course of a year. Factors that increase include births, and factors that decrease include deaths. Another factor that decreases is aging. In other words, a person who is currently 5 years old will be 6 years old in a year, leaving this portion of the population and moving to the next portion.
