Senka paper - Senka paper

Japanese: 泉貨紙 - せんかし
Senka paper - Senka paper
Also written as senka-shi. (1) Originally, it referred to thick washi paper made by hand from paper mulberry. Nowadays, it refers to machine-made washi paper made from paper mulberry, mulberry bark, and Manila hemp mixed with pulp and recycled paper. It is used for publishing, scriptures, and ledgers, and high-quality handmade paper is also used for umbrellas. (2) A low-grade machine-made printing paper made mainly from wood pulp. In the years following World War II, when Western paper was in short supply, it was made as a substitute for Western paper by applying the manufacturing method of senka-shi. Production fell sharply as production of Western paper increased.
