A village in Iwase County, central Fukushima Prefecture. Population 6,256 (1995). Located southwest of Koriyama City. The western part is mountainous, on the eastern slope of the Ou Mountains, while the eastern part is flat along the Namegawa River, Iwane River, and Inagawa River, upstream of the Abukuma River. In addition to these rivers, the village is blessed with abundant water due to the construction of the new Asaka Canal in 1966, fertile soil, little snowfall, and a warm climate. Rice is the main agricultural production, and rice paddies account for about 40% of the village's area, making it the largest producer in the county. In recent years, it has become a specialty production area for summer/autumn cucumbers, known as Iwase cucumbers, and with the opening of the Tohoku Expressway, cucumbers are mainly shipped to the Tokyo market.
