[Technology Assessment Methodology]
There is no established procedure for conducting a technology assessment, and it varies depending on the target technology. There are various procedures, including the seven-step method developed by MITRE Corp. (a non-profit think tank mainly composed of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in the United States, but all of them include the following steps in their sequence: (1) determining the physical and social conditions in which the technology will be applied, (2) understanding the outline of the technology, (3) extracting, organizing, and analyzing the effects (impact) of the technology on society, etc., and (4) evaluating the impact.
