A type of Chinese divination. A method of divination by throwing a pair of poe (crescent-shaped objects) with one side bulging like a seashell and the other flat. In the past, clam shells were used. If both flat sides face up, or both face down, neither side is in accordance with the will of the gods, but if one flat side faces up and the other down, it is called sing poe (holy), and is said to be in accordance with the will of the gods. Even today, this is widely practiced by worshippers at temples in Taiwan and Hong Kong. [Sunayama Minoru]

中国の占いの一種。片面が貝殻のようにふくらみ，片面が平らな三日月形をしたポエ()一対を投げることによって神意を占う方法。古くはハマグリの貝殻を用いた。平らな面が双方とも上を向いた場合や，双方とも下に向いた場合は，どちらも神意にかなわず，平らな面が一つは上を向き，一つは下を向いた場合，シンポエ(聖)といって，神意にかなったとされる。台湾，香港の寺廟では現在も参拝者によって広く行われている。【砂山稔】
