Palais de Fontainebleau : A palace in Fontainebleau, a city in the Seine-et-Marne department in north-central France. It is located in the center of the Forest of Fontainebleau, which was a hunting ground for the royal family and nobility. It was built in the 16th century by King Francis I in the country's first full-scale Renaissance style. The interior decoration was done by Mannerist painters and sculptors such as Rosso Fiorentino, who would later be known as the School of Fontainebleau. It was repeatedly expanded and remodeled by successive kings, and took on its current form at the end of the 18th century, during the reign of Louis XVI. In 1981, it was registered as a World Heritage Site (cultural heritage) under the name "Palace and Gardens of Fontainebleau". Palace of Fontainebleau. Château de Fontainebleau.
