…Dogs have played an important role in hunting since ancient times, and these characteristics have been passed down to modern hunting dogs. In other words, dogs that are light, fast, brave, and have the ability to chase and bark appropriately are the group known as hounds in English. Greyhounds, Dachshunds, Beagles, Borzois, Sulkies, and the Kishu, Kai, and Akita dogs (Akita Matagi), which are used in Japan to hunt large game such as deer and wild boar, are also classified as hounds.
