Müller, KO (English spelling) MullerKO

...This book begins with Heron of Alexandria, and introduces ancient books by Vitruvius, Cato the Elder, Biringuccio, G. Agricola, G. Cardano, Jacques Besson, Agostino Ramelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and others with modern illustrations, and ends with Watt's steam engine, making it a specialized book on the history of technology that goes beyond the previous stories of invention. In the 19th century, modern archaeology was established, and in particular Karl Otfried Müller's (1797-1840) Textbook of Art Archaeology (1830) showed a new perspective that included the history of technology, establishing research methods, as well as the beginning of prehistoric archaeology and the resulting wealth of historical technical materials from excavations. Since CJ Thomsen, prehistoric periods have been based on technological history, and advances in chemical analysis and absolute dating using the radioactive isotope 14C have linked prehistoric technological history with archaeology.
