The Act on the governance of Ireland by Great Britain. The Statute of Droida, which consisted of 49 articles and was passed by the Parliament held in Droida in 1494-95, had two articles named after its author, E. Poynings, the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. (1) It applied the public law of England to Ireland, and (2) it placed the opening of the Irish Parliament and its legislative work under the control of the King of England and the Privy Council, and any act of the Irish Parliament that did not seek their consent in advance was invalid. As a result, until the de facto repeal of the Act in 1782, it was impossible to hold an Irish Parliament without the permission of the Great Seal of England.
