The name of the family lineage whose ancestor was Gon Dainagon Nagaie, the sixth son of Fujiwara no Michinaga, the Mido Kanpaku. Nagaie inherited the residence of the Left Minister Prince Kaneakira, the son of Emperor Daigo. After Shunzei, who rivaled Kiyosuke and Kensho of the Rokujo family in the late Heian period, Teika and Tameie successively became imperial anthologists and central leaders in the world of waka poetry, establishing the authority of the Mikohidari family as waka masters. Tameie's descendants were split into three families, the Nijo, Kyogoku, and Reizei families, but the Nijo family, the main line, took on the name "Mikohidari" after Tamemasa during the Nanboku-cho period to give themselves authority, and the use of this name dating back to the time of Shunzei and Teika is a convenient title that was only used in modern times.
