Boy Scouts

A British organization and movement for boys founded in 1908 by RS Baden-Powell (1857-1941). The Girl Scouts organization for women is called the Girl Scouts. When General Powell was in command of the Boer War, he saw boys serving as scouts and advocated training and cultivating boys through scouting activities in the great outdoors, which required adventure, precise observation and technique, quick independent judgment and collective action, rather than military training, which was bound by rules.

1908年イギリスのベーデン･パウエルR.S.Baden‐Powell(1857‐1941)によって創始された少年団組織とその運動。女子の組織はガール･スカウト。パウエル将軍はボーア戦争を指揮した際，少年たちが斥候として活躍する姿を見て，規則に拘束された軍事訓練でなく，大自然の中での冒険的で緻密な観察と技術，機敏な自主的判断と集団的行動を必要とする斥候活動によって，少年たちを訓練しつつ陶冶することを提唱した。
