Alexander Mitscherlich

1908‐1982
One of Germany's leading contemporary psychoanalysts. He studied medicine in Munich and elsewhere. In 1948 he founded the psychoanalytic journal Psyche, and as its editor-in-chief he has contributed to the popularization and development of psychoanalysis. He is currently a professor of psychology at the University of Frankfurt and also the director of the Freud Institute there. In his major work, A Society Without a Father (1963), he raises some sharp questions about modern society. [Omiyama Minoru]

現代ドイツを代表する精神分析学者。ミュンヘンほか各地で医学を学んだ。1948年精神分析雑誌《プシヘ》を創刊し，編集長として精神分析の普及と発達に貢献している。現在，フランクフルト大学心理学教授であり，同地のフロイト研究所所長も兼ねている。主著《父親なき社会》(1963)では，現代社会への鋭い問題提起をおこなった。【小見山実】
