Alexander Mitscherlich
1908‐1982
One of Germany's leading contemporary psychoanalysts. He studied medicine in Munich and elsewhere. In 1948 he founded the psychoanalytic journal Psyche, and as its editor-in-chief he has contributed to the popularization and development of psychoanalysis. He is currently a professor of psychology at the University of Frankfurt and also the director of the Freud Institute there. In his major work, A Society Without a Father (1963), he raises some sharp questions about modern society. [Omiyama Minoru]
