Azerbaijani literary figure. Born in Sheki (now a provincial city in Azerbaijan). In Russia, he is called Mirza Fatali Akhundov. To escape the ravages of the Iranian-Russian War, he moved around Azerbaijan and trained as a mullah. He later studied Western European subjects and became an interpreter for the Caucasian Government-General, a position he held for the rest of his life. During this time, he published many literary works in his native Azerbaijani. Among them, Tamsirat (a collection of plays) was translated into Persian and had a great influence on Iran's "constitutional literature movement."

アゼルバイジャンの文学者。シェキ(現，アゼルバイジャンの一地方都市)の生れ。ロシアではアフンドフMirza Fatali Akhundovと呼ばれる。イラン･ロシア戦争の戦禍を避けてアゼルバイジャン各地を移り住みながらモッラー(ムッラー)の修行を積む。その後，西欧の諸学問を修め，カフカス総督府の通訳官となり，終生この職にあった。この間，母語であるアゼルバイジャン語で多くの文学作品を発表。なかでも，《タムシーラート(戯曲集)》はペルシア語にも翻訳され，イランの〈立憲文学運動〉に多大な影響を与えた。
