An evergreen shrub of the Acanthaceae family (APG classification: Acanthaceae). Its English name is Koebiso (small shrimp grass). Native to Mexico. When potted, it grows to a height of 30-60 cm, but when planted in the ground in a greenhouse, it becomes semi-creeping and grows to more than 3 meters, with many branches from the base. The stem has long internodes. The leaves are opposite, ovate, 3-7 cm long, and pointed at the tip. The spikes are 5-10 cm long, heart-shaped, and have beautiful overlapping reddish-brown bracts. The corolla is long and slender, about 3 cm long, protrudes beyond the bracts, and is divided into two upper and lower lips. It is white with purple spots on the lower lip. It has two stamens. The calyx is white and has five lobes. It blooms all year round, but it blooms well in spring. It is generally potted, but is also used as cut flowers. The best time to plant in flower beds is from May to October. Propagation is usually by cuttings, and the soil should be in a ratio of 3 parts loam, 1 part leaf mold, and 1 part river sand.
