Oriyasumi - Good night

...There are short breaks taken as needed during the day's work, and holidays that are appropriately distributed throughout the year. In the rural areas of Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture, when people go out to the fields and take a rest by smoking a cigarette instead of starting work right away, this is called oriyasumi, and one break in the morning and one in the afternoon are called tabakoyasumi, nakayasumi, and one after meals is called jikiyasumi. Naps are limited to the summer, and are limited to the period from after rice planting to Hassaku (the first day of the old August), and the time is said to be after lunch, until one stick of incense burns out.
