Liguria (province)

A region in northern Italy. Area: 5,413 km2, population: 1.66 million (1994). Bordering France to the west, it is a long, narrow region that forms an arc from east to west along the Ligurian Sea of the Mediterranean Sea. From east to west, it has four provinces: La Spezia, Genoa, Savona, and Imperia. Its capital is Genoa. The Ligurian Apennine Mountains, which separate the coastal Alps on the border with France and the Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna regions in the north and northeast, drop steeply into the sea on the Ligurian Sea side, so there is very little plain land.

イタリア北部の州。面積5413km2，人口166万(1994)。西をフランスと接し，地中海のリグリア海に沿って東西に弧を描いた細長い州で，東からラ･スペチア，ジェノバ，サボナ，インペリアの四つの県があり，州都はジェノバ。フランスとの境の海岸アルプス，北部および北東部のピエモンテ州やエミリア･ロマーニャ州を隔てているリグリア･アペニノ山脈はリグリア海側の斜面では険しく海へ落ち込んでいるため，平野部はきわめて少ない。
