Abiragawa

...Population: 5,504 (1995). Most of the town area is hilly land covered with volcanic ash, with the Abira River flowing south through the center. With the opening of the Hokkaido Colliery and Railway Company's Muroran Line (now the Muroran Main Line) in 1892 and Hayakita Station in 1894, groups from Tottori and Awa settled in the Abira River basin, a tributary of the Abira River, which was blessed with good water supplies.
