A noble family and major financial institution in medieval Florence, Italy. They were already powerful nobles by the 12th century, but in 1260 Filippo di Amideo became the leader of the Papal coalition (Guelfi) and was elected to the newly established position of Prior (city consul) in 1284. After that, the family produced many high-ranking city officials, including Prior 53 times and Gonfaloniere (highest consul) nine times. In the 13th and 14th centuries, they engaged in large-scale commercial and financial activities, setting up offices in major cities such as Naples, Paris, and London and lending large amounts of money to kings and lords of various countries. However, during the Hundred Years' War, they teamed up with fellow Florentine merchants, the Bardi family, to lend a huge amount of money to King Edward III of England, which went bankrupt in 1343, causing not only the downfall of the family but also great confusion in the finances of the city of Florence.

中世イタリアのフィレンツェの貴族の家系，大金融業者。 12世紀頃までにはすでに有力貴族であったが，1260年フィリッポ・ディ・アミデオが教皇派 (グェルフィ) 連合の指導者となり，84年に新設されたプリオレ (市執政官) 職に選ばれた。その後一族からはプリオレに選ばれること 53回，ゴンファロニエーレ (最高執政官) には9回というほどに多くの市政高官を輩出した。 13～14世紀に大規模な商業・金融活動を営み，ナポリ，パリ，ロンドンなどの大都市に事業所をおいて諸国王，諸侯に巨額の融資をした。しかし，百年戦争の際にフィレンツェの同業者バルディ家と組んでイングランド王エドワード3世に融通した巨額の貸付金がこげついて，1343年に倒産の憂き目にあい，一族の没落だけではなくフィレンツェ市の財政に多大の混乱をもたらした。
