A Venetian family of painters. Two generations of father and son played leading roles in the formation of the Venetian school of the Renaissance. (1) Jacopo Bellini (c. 1400-1970 or 1971) was a pupil of Gentile da Fabriano, and his style was strongly influenced by his teacher's late Gothic style. In 1536 he produced The Crucifixion (lost) for Verona Cathedral. In 1551 he beat Pisanello in a portrait competition for Prince Lionello d'Este in Ferrara. Many of his major recorded works have been lost, and only a few small Madonna and Child paintings remain, but these omissions are made up by two large "drawing books" (Louvre, British Museum), which are valuable in art history. ベネチアの画家一族。父子2代にわたってルネサンス期ベネチア派の形成に指導的な役割を演じた。(1)ヤコポJacopo Bellini(1400ころ‐70か71)はジェンティーレ･ダ･ファブリアーノの弟子で，師の後期ゴシック様式の影響を強く受けて画風を形成する。36年ベローナ大聖堂に《キリストの磔刑》(消失)を制作。51年フェラーラで君主リオネロ･デステの肖像画コンクールでピサネロを破る。記録に残る主要作品の多くは消滅し，何点かの小型の聖母子画が残るだけであるが，その欠落は，美術史的に貴重な2冊の大型の〈素描帖〉(ルーブル美術館，大英博物館)が補っている。
