Miyaji

Japanese: 宮氏 - みやうじ

After the Nanboku-cho period, this powerful clan was based in Honji County, Bingo Province, and branched out to various parts of the country. It is said to be a branch of the Fujiwara clan, Onomiya, and is thought to be the same family as the shrine family of Ichinomiya in Bingo. The Taiheiki records the Miya clan among the Bingo samurai who rushed to Senjo-san, and records Miya Kanenobu's participation in the forces of Ashikaga Takauji that attacked the Southern Iyo Army in 1342 (Kokoku 3, Kōei 1). On the other hand, there was Miya Morishige, who was assigned as an envoy to the shogunate from 1346 (Shohei 1, Sadawa 2), and he sided with Ashikaga Tadafuyu during the Kan'ō Disturbance, before eventually returning to Takauji's side, but Kanenobu remained on Takauji's side throughout and was temporarily appointed as the governor of Bitchu.

南北朝期以降，備後国品治（ほんじ）郡を中心とし国内各地に一族を分出した豪族。藤原氏小野宮流と伝え，備後一宮の社家と同族と推測される。《太平記》には船上山（せんじようさん）に馳せ参じた備後武士に宮氏を伝え，1342年(興国3∥康永1)伊予南軍を襲撃した足利尊氏方軍勢に宮兼信の参加を記す。一方46年(正平1∥貞和2)以降に幕府使節にあてられた宮盛重があり，観応の擾乱（じようらん）には足利直冬（ただふゆ）に与（くみ）し，やがて尊氏方に復帰したが，兼信は終始尊氏方で一時備中守護に任じられた。
