Daidan - Daidan

Japanese: 大壇 - だいだん

Name of Buddhist ritual implement. A large square platform (illustration) used by the doshi (master priest) for the ritual during the esoteric Buddhist ceremony. Thin rod-like pillars called ketsu (pillars) are erected at the four corners, and ropes made of five colored threads called dansen (danten) are wrapped around them on all four sides. The ritual implements directly related to the ritual are the kosha (metal incense burner) placed in the center just in front of the doshi, three bowl-shaped rotsuki (six containers) placed on each side of it, and a vajra bell and five pronged vajra (five-pronged vajra) placed on a vajra plate just beyond the kosha. In addition, a sanko and a dokko are placed on the left and right of the goko on the plate.

仏事の法具名。密教立（みつきようだて）の法要のとき，導師（どうし）が修法に用いる正方形大型の壇(図)。四隅に細い棒状の橛（けつ）という柱を立て，これに壇線という五色の糸でよった縄をからませて四方を囲む。修法に直接かかわる法具は，導師の直前の真ん中に据えた火舎(金属製の香炉)，その左右に三つずつ並べた碗状の六器（ろつき），火舎のすぐ向う側に据えた金剛盤上の金剛鈴と五鈷（ごこ）などである。なお，盤上五鈷の向う左右には三鈷と独鈷を据える。
