Ernst Haefliger

Swiss tenor. He studied at the Zurich Conservatory and made his debut in 1942. In 1949, he sang Tiresias at the premiere of C. Orff's Antigone at the Salzburg Festival. After signing a contract with the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1952, he was active throughout Europe and the United States through the 1960s, and was particularly well-received for his performances in Mozart's operas. In addition to his naturally lyrical voice, he always maintained a precise and clean singing style, and was known as a master singer of oratorios and passions. He first visited Japan in 1966.

スイスのテノール歌手。チューリヒ音楽院で学び，1942年デビュー。49年ザルツブルク音楽祭におけるC.オルフの《アンティゴネ》初演でティレジアス役を歌う。52年ベルリン･ドイツ･オペラと契約して以来，60年代にかけて欧米各地で活躍，とくにモーツァルトのオペラに数多く出演して好評を得た。また天性の抒情的な声に加えて常に正確で清潔な歌唱法を保ち，オラトリオや受難曲の名歌手としても知られた。1966年初来日。
