Concours Musical International Reine Elisabeth

Japanese: エリーザベト王妃国際音楽コンクール - エリーザベトおうひこくさいおんがくコンクール(英語表記)Concours Musical International Reine Elisabeth
Concours Musical International Reine Elisabeth
This competition was founded by Elisabeth, wife of King Albert I of Belgium (reigned 1909-34). It was inaugurated in 1937 as a competition named after the violinist and composer Ysaïet, who was the queen's teacher. The violin category was held that year, and the piano category the following year, but it was eventually suspended due to World War II. It was revived in 1951 as a competition named after the queen. A rotation was established in which the violin category was held that year, the piano category in 1952, the composition category in 1953, and there was a break in 1954, and this format was repeated until 1972, but has since become irregular.
