...Buddhism and other Indian religious and philosophical schools all accepted the theory of reincarnation and sought some form of liberation from it. The Upanishads were first introduced to the world in the early 19th century by the French orientalist Anquetil Duperron in his Latin translation, Oupnek'hat. This was a retranslation from Persian, and it is well known that the German philosopher Schopenhauer learned of the Upanishads through this translation and was greatly influenced by it.
