Hexamethylenediamine - Hekisamechirenjiamin (English spelling) hexamethylenediamine

An aliphatic amine. Also known as 1,6-hexanediamine or 1,6-diaminohexane. A solid with a distinctive odor. Absorbs water and carbon dioxide from the air. It is obtained by reducing adiponitrile NC(CH 2 ) 4 CN with sodium and ethanol (ethyl alcohol). It dissolves well in water and ethanol. Along with adipic acid HOOC(CH 2 ) 4 COOH, it is an important raw material for the synthesis of 6,6-nylon, a synthetic polyamide fiber.
