Orikuchi studies

…As a poet, he went by the name Shaku Chuoku. Shinobu worked in many fields, all of which had original content. He was the founder of folklore Japanese literature and the study of Japanese performing arts history, and his achievements later led to the creation of an academic system known to the public as Orikuchi studies.
[As a poet]
Shinobu, who had been familiar with tanka poetry since his childhood and had read the Man'yoshu, came to know Hattori Muneji and other poets of the Tokyo Negishi Tanka Society while studying at Kokugakuin University, and became a member of the Araragi group in 1917.
