…In France, Madame Autun-Lara's Art Action Laboratory introduced his works The Death of Doctor Faustus and Christopher Columbus in the 1928-29 season. However, his fame in Paris was only solidified after the religious scandals caused by the performances of his masterpieces The Escurial (1948) and Orgies in Hell (1949). The nightmarish world he painted has something in common with Artaud's Theatre of Cruelty, and can be said to be a reproduction of the fantastical world of Flemish paintings by Bruegel and H.
