Glory of the Sea

Japanese: ウミノサカエイモガイ - うみのさかえいもがい（英語表記）glory of the sea

A gastropod snail of the family Conidae in the class Gastropoda of the phylum Mollusca. It lives in the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia, and is an inverted cone shaped shell about 14 cm high and 5.6 cm in diameter. The surface of the shell has a fine triangular pattern and three brown bands. It was once highly coveted by collectors and was an expensive shell, but in recent years it has been supplied in relatively large quantities.

軟体動物門腹足綱イモガイ科の巻き貝。フィリピンその他の東南アジアにすみ、殻高14センチメートル、殻径5.6センチメートルぐらいの逆円錐(えんすい)形である。殻表には細かい三角形状の模様と、3本の褐色帯がある。かつては収集家に渇望され高価な貝であったが、近年では比較的多く供給されている。
