Japanese: 平版 - へいはん

A type of printing plate in which the image and non-image areas are on the same plane. It takes advantage of the repulsive action of water and oil, and the image areas are made oleophilic so that the oil-based ink will adhere only to the image areas, and the non-image areas are treated with a film of water to prevent the oil-based ink from adhering to them. The plate is then wetted with water and printed. Offset printing is the most common type of lithographic printing, and in this case, a plano-intaglio plate with a slight depression in the image area is usually used. Another type is lithographic printing (lithography).

画線部と非画線部が同一平面上にある印刷版の形式。水と油の反発作用を利用したもので，油脂性のインキが画線部のみに付着するように，画線部を親油性に，非画線部を水の皮膜によって油脂性のインキが付着しないように処理したのち，版に水を付けて印刷する。平版印刷ではオフセット印刷が代表的で，この場合，画線部をわずかにくぼませた平凹版を使用するのが普通。ほかに石版印刷（石版画）がある。
