Shingon Ritsu sect

Japanese: 真言律宗 - しんごんりっしゅう
Shingon Ritsu sect
A sect of Buddhism said to have been introduced from China by Kukai. Based on the Sarvativite Vinaya, it also includes the Sukhavati-kyō (3 volumes) and the Sōvākha-kyō (3 volumes), and establishes the Samaya precepts. Myōnin recited it during the Keichō era (1596-1615), and in the Keian era, Jōgen further refined the sect's style. During the Kansei era, Jion Sonja reformed it, calling it Shohō, and the Shingon Ritsu sect was established. It was headed at Koki-ji Temple in Kawachi and later belonged to the Shingon sect, but in 1895 it became independent and established Saidai-ji Temple in Nara as its head temple.
