Mizunomaki

Japanese: 美豆牧 - みずのまき

An ancient imperial ranch thought to have occupied an area in Kuse County, Yamashiro Province, from the northwest of Kumiyama Town, Kyoto Prefecture to the southwest of Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City. "Mizuno" was designated a "no-hunting area" in the late 9th century, and it is likely that a ranch was established here. According to the Engishiki, it was under the jurisdiction of the Left and Right Horse Bureau (Meryo) and consisted of 11 cho of stable fields and over 50 cho of fields. The ranch was later attached to the Emperor's stables and was managed by the stable chief. "Mizuno" and "Mizumomimaki" are both utamakura.

山城国久世(くせ)郡，現京都府久御山(くみやま)町北西部から京都市伏見区の南西部を占めたと思われる古代皇室の牧場。〈美豆野〉は９世紀後半には〈禁猟地〉とされており，ここに牧が設けられたのであろう。《延喜式》によると左右馬寮(めりょう)の管轄下にあり，厩(うまや)畠11町と野地50町余からなっていた。牧はのち院の御厩に付属し，御厩別当が管掌した。〈美豆野〉〈美豆御牧〉はともに歌枕。
