Macadamia - Macadamia

Macadamia is a fruit tree of the Proteaceae family (APG classification: Proteaceae). There are three species in this genus, which grow naturally in New South Wales and Queensland in Australia. This species is also called Queensland nut, named after its native habitat. It is an evergreen tree that grows to a height of 10 to 15 meters. The leaves are leathery, 10 to 25 cm long, entire or serrated. The flowers are 2.5 cm in diameter and bloom in racemes 20 cm long. The fruits are globular and hard, 2 to 2.5 cm in diameter, with a smooth surface. The seeds are white and fragrant. The seeds are roasted with salt to become commercially available macadamia nuts, and Hawaii is the main producer. 100 grams of nuts contain 720 kcal of energy, 8.3 grams of protein, 76.8 grams of fat, and 10.2 grams of carbohydrates. It is also rich in minerals, with 15 mg of calcium, 550 mg of phosphorus, 6.2 mg of iron, 4 mg of sodium, and 690 mg of potassium, as well as 0.21 mg of vitamin B1 and 2.1 mg of niacin. It melts in your mouth when you bite into it, has a fine texture, and is delicious. It can be cultivated in Japan, but it is vulnerable to wind due to its shallow root system, and is not commercially cultivated in Japan, where typhoons are frequent.
