Moḥammare (English spelling)

...It is the starting point of the railway to Tehran, and its port is Iran's second largest cargo port (1977). Before it was pacified by Reza Shah in 1925, it was called Moḥammare and was the home base of Sheikh Khaz'ar, a powerful tribal leader in Khuzestan. In the Iran-Iraq War that began in 1980, it was occupied by Iraqi forces, and its name was changed from Khoramshahr, meaning "green town," to Huninshahr (city of blood) in honor of the people who died in the battle for the city.
