Sergio Corazzini

Sergio Corazzini

Italian poet. Born in Rome. A representative figure of the "Twilight School", a small group that formed in the early 20th century. He wrote sentimental poems, written in a whispered style, mainly about death and love. His poems from his lifetime, such as "The Bitter Cup" (1905), "Prose Fragments" (1906), and "Useless Pamphlet" (1906), are collected in one volume of "Lyrics" (1909). He was familiar with the poems of Maeterlinck, Rodinbach, and Laforgue, and translated the poems of Jammes in particular. Although he called himself a "weeping boy poet", he died at the young age of 21 due to lung disease. Among the "Twilight School" poets, he has been particularly highly regarded in recent years as the starting point of modern Italian poetry, along with Gozzano, who also died young.
