A law (1927) that specified the details of the military service obligation under the Meiji Constitution, replacing the conscription law. Men (mainlanders) to whom the Family Registration Law applied were obligated to serve in the military from the age of 17 to 40, and when they reached 20 years of age, they were subjected to conscription examinations and those fit for active duty were conscripted, while reserve, supplementary and national military service were called up in times of war or conflict. The Volunteer Military Service Law enacted in June 1945 organized men from 15 to 60 years and women from 17 to 40 years into the National Volunteer Combat Corps in preparation for the decisive battle on the mainland. Both were abolished after the end of the war. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
