Wang Ruan Pavilion

…A poet who represents the next generation after Qian Qianyi, Wu Weiye, and Gu Yanwu, who experienced the Tripartite Revolution of the Ming and Qing dynasties in China. His pen name was Yishang, his pen name was Ruan Ting, and he was also known as Yuyang Shanren. His hometown of Xincheng, Shandong Province, was one of the first provinces to surrender to the Qing dynasty without resistance, and he was quickly absorbed into the cultural policy of the new government. He joined the government at the age of 24 and rose steadily until he was dismissed from his position as Minister of Justice at the age of 71, but he was always haunted by a sense of indecision. His debut work, "Autumn Willows," written at the age of 23, captured the hearts of intellectuals at the time, not only because it sang of an indescribable melancholy for a lost dynasty, but also because the way it was sung reflected the style of Zhong Xi and others from the end of the Ming Dynasty, and the hazy representations, interspersed with classically refined poetic language and historical tales, created a fresh sound that was combined with a clear rhythm and a hazy veil of imagery.

…中国，明･清の鼎革を体験した銭謙益･呉偉業･顧炎武らの次の世代を代表する詩人。字は貽上（いじよう），号は阮亭，また漁洋山人。出身地新城の属する山東省が無抵抗のまま最初に清朝にくだったこともあって，新政権の文化政策に早々に吸収され，24歳で仕官してより71歳で刑部尚書(法務大臣)を免職されるまで順調な出世を重ねたが，その心情には常に割り切れなさがつきまとう。彼の23歳でのデビュー作である《秋柳》詩が当時の知識人の心をとらえたのは，失われた王朝への名状しがたい憂愁が歌われていたということのほかに，歌いかたのうえで，明末の鍾惺（しようせい）らの作風を反省し，古典的に精練された詩語と故事を点綴しながら靄のごときベールをひとかけするような朦朧たる表象の，清麗なリズムとあいまった新鮮な響きがあったことにもよる。…
