A city on Lake Michigan in northeastern Illinois, USA. It borders Chicago to the north. The town's origins date back to 1853, when Chicago businessmen purchased land for Northwestern University, which was founded in 1851. The city was named after one of the founders, J. Evans. Known as an educational and religious city, it is home to many higher education institutions and research institutes, and in 1854 the World Congress of Christianity was held here. Although it is a residential suburb of Chicago, it is home to manufacturing industries such as steel products, paint, chemical products, and food products, as well as publishing companies. It is also home to the Rotary International headquarters. Population 73,233 (1990).

アメリカ合衆国，イリノイ州北東部，ミシガン湖畔の都市。シカゴの北に接する。町の起源は 1853年。シカゴの実業家たちが，1851年に創設したノースウェスタン大学のため土地を購入したのが始り。創設者の一人，J.エバンズの名前が地名になった。教育・宗教都市として知られ，多くの高等教育機関，研究機関が立地し，54年には世界キリスト教会議が開かれた。シカゴの郊外住宅地であるが，鉄鋼製品，塗料，化学製品，食料品などの製造業，出版業などが立地。ロータリー国際本部がある。人口7万 3233 (1990) 。
