A novella by British author O. Goldsmith. Published in 1766. It centers on the family of Primrose, a country clergyman, and depicts events that occur in an idyllic atmosphere with a touch of irony. The story is about a good-natured, gullible family who are hit one after another by misfortune, but are eventually able to recover and return to a peaceful life. Goethe particularly liked the joyful, idyllic atmosphere, and was strongly influenced by this work when he was young.
