Sciatic nerve (sciatic nerve)

Sciatic nerve (sciatic nerve)
A nerve that controls the lower limbs. It is the thickest and longest of all human peripheral nerves, about as thick as the shaft of a pencil, and is said to be able to withstand tension greater than the body's weight without being ruptured. The nerve fibers that make up this nerve are mainly those contained in the anterior branches of the fourth lumbar nerve to the third sacral nerve. These nerve fibers join the sciatic plexus and then combine to form the sciatic nerve. In the lower limbs, it controls the flexors of the upper leg and all the muscles of the lower leg and foot, and is also distributed to the skin of the lower leg (except the inner surface) and foot.
