Flugblatt (English spelling) [Germany]

Flugblatt (English spelling) [Germany]
It means flyer. Originally, it referred to flyers or pamphlets called Flugschrift, which were issued in Europe in the late 15th and 16th centuries to convey single news items such as wars or natural disasters. They were often sold on the streets. They function somewhat similarly to Japanese woodblock prints, and were one of the precursors to newspapers that were published periodically. They were published in various European countries, including France (where they were called canards) and Spain, but most were produced by German printers. Later, printers such as Michael Freiherr von Aitzing of Cologne published many Flugblatts between 1588 and 1593, and at the same time published summaries of major events every six months in the form of Relatio Historica.
