Delhi, the object of great virtue - Delhi, the object of great virtue
A collection of poems by Maurice Sebe, a French Renaissance poet of the School of Lyon. Published in 1544. The title is an anagram of "Idea" (Idea), and is said to express the poet's intention to praise the ideal woman. The composition is highly deliberate, with an eight-line preface followed by 449 short poems of ten lines, with 50 allegorical illustrations regularly inserted between them. Sebe fell in love with the young female poet Pernette du Guillet, and in this work the woman is idealized and idealized in the poet's mind. He yearns for a spiritual union with her, and after passing through various phases of hope and suffering, he finally comes to the conviction of the immortality of love.
