This is an extensive aquaculture method in which young shellfish (seedlings) such as clams, oysters, and scallops are spread in a certain area of shallow water, grown on natural feed, and harvested. There are two methods of spreading: the tidal spreading method, in which seedlings are spread from a boat at high tide, and the tidal flats method, in which seedlings are spread on tidal flats at low tide. In the case of clams, seedlings with shell lengths of about 2 cm are spread in spring or autumn at about 12 to 36 liters per 10 m2 of aquaculture area, and the ones that have grown to 3.5 to 4 cm are harvested six months to a year later, from autumn to spring. In the case of clams, seedlings with shell lengths of about 2 cm are spread in April or May in calm waters with a depth of 1 to 4 m at a rate of 11 to 27 liters per 10 m2.
