Born in 1626, Kyoto [Died] June 21, 1704 (1st year of the Hoei period). A townsman in Kyoto in the early Edo period. Also known as Hatakeyama Miyama, but the basis for this is unclear. Name: Shichiroemon. Pen name: Moriyoshi. Also known as Sosen, Ryoin, Donshuken, etc. Born into a wealthy townsman's family, he started playing at a young age and studied haiku under Matsunaga Teitoku. He also excelled in the art of reading old calligraphy, and wrote Kenden Meimyoroku (1652), later making it his profession. When his family's fortunes declined, he switched from being a guest to a geisha, and wrote Masarikusa (56), a record of the reputation of Osaka Shinmachi. He also traveled to the pleasure quarters of various provinces, completing Shikido Daikyo (78), which had a great influence on later Ukiyo-zoshi.
