Innocentius XI

Japanese: インノケンティウス[11世](英語表記)Innocentius XI
Innocentius XI
1611‐89
Pope of the Roman Empire. Reigned 1676-89. He was a constant opponent of Gallicanism under the leadership of Louis XIV and Bossuet. He was also a devout man, and rejected the Repeal of the Ordinance of Nantes (1685), which represented the persecution of Protestants, and the Edict of Religious Liberty (1687), which represented the forceful restoration of Catholicism by King James II of England. He also enthusiastically worked to reform the church, criticizing the 65 Theses of Relaxationism (1678) and 68 Theses of Quietism (1687).
